A Canadian Prairie term for a mixed fruit and spirit cocktail.
Watermelon, strawberries, lime, etc. infused with an assortment of spirits. Often assembled and served in a large punch bowl or jug.
This is a lower-than-usual alcohol recipe, but you can still taste all the flavour.
Ingredients
-
16oz Ginger Berry Mixer (a full bottle)
-
4oz gin (or non-alc alternative)
-
4oz vodka
-
4oz rum
-
4 cups of diced, seedless watermelon (1” squares)
-
4 cups frozen strawberries (about 4 per cup)
-
1 lime, cut into slices
-
1L sparkling water
Directions
Get all your watermelon peeled and diced. Put it in a big ziplock bag. Add the spirits to the bag, seal it up, and leave it in the fridge for at least 3 hours or better yet, overnight.
Divide the spirit-infused fruit among 8 tall glasses (it works out to be just over 1oz of alcohol per cup). Use a slotted spoon to scoop out the fruit which will make it easier to divide evenly.
Add 2oz of Ginger Berry Mixer into each glass and stir.
Add 4 frozen strawberries per cup.
Top with sparkling water.
Pile in as much ice as you can.
Garnish with a slice of lime and add additional slices into glasses.
Recipe Note
To make a big punch bowl
After the watermelon has become spirit-infused, put everything into a big punch bowl and stir it with a ladle. Load it up with lots of ice and lime slices. Guests can serve themselves with the ladle.
